Zoliekah
Zoliekah was commissioned by Mr and Mrs Jamie Thomas of Black Case Developments Ltd, Oxford and gifted to the people of Oxford on behalf of the Tawera Masonic Lodge. It took Debbie Templeton Page, the sculptor 5 months to carve the hard volcanic basalt from Mt Horrible near Timaru. She has carved all 4 sides using a range of diamond grinders which she used dry.
The theme of the work relates to the ‘Family of Mankind and its Relation to Nature Within theCircle of Life’. The art work is named after the artist’s grand daughter Zoliekah. Debbie Templeton Page was born in Tasmania and has aboriginal ancestry. She moved permanently to New Zealand in her 20s and has been sculpting since 1999 and works full time from her studio/gallery at York St Gallery, Timaru.
She predominately exhibits in South Canterbury and as well as working in basalt she works in bronze, ceramic, cast lead crystal, marble and alabaster. Her work is represented in many public and private collection both in New Zealand and overseas.
