Tuhono Te Tuna
Jedd Pearce who commissioned this work wanted something special in the courtyard, a place where people would meet. The sculpture is a bronze cast sculpture of the New Zealand native Long fin Eel (Anguilla Dieffenbachii). They can grow up to 2 metres long and weigh 50kgs.
The work was made by local artist Mark Larsen using the lost wax process and used 85 kg s of bronze. This was Mark’s first attempt at casting in bronze and the casting was done in the foundry at Read Industrial Ltd in Rangiora.
The name Tuhono means to connect or link and was named as a result of a local competition won by Adie Gray of Kaiapoi.
