Obelisk - Salmon Fishing

Michael is the son of Margaret Ryley and a highly regarded sculptor and ceramicist in his own right. This obelisk depicts the salmon caught in the Kaiapoi river and is sited at a sharp bend in the river, once well known for catching salmon The structure includes stainless steel fish and on top is a stainless steel fishing lure.

The stainless steel salmon replace the original ceramic ones which were sadly vandalised.Michaels completed a Batchelor of Applied Arts with first class honours at the University of New South Wales.

In 1999 he won a two year post graduated scholarship and took on a lecturing roll.

He is a respected ceramicist who has works in both public and private collections.
