This obelisk on the Northern Bank of the Kaiapoi River has been crafted by ceramic artist Susan Sky with the metal sculpture of a sweeping bird by sculptor Ian Lamont sitting on top. It includes a poem ‘Walk the river’ and invites walkers to follow the walkway along the Kaiapoi River. The art work was damaged in the 2010 earthquake and was in storage until weeks before the 10th anniversary of the disaster in September 2020. It is one of four obelisks, a project delivered by the Waimakariri Arts Council led by Jackie Watson and constructed by Angus Watson. A time capsule from 2009 sits inside the structure.
