Kia Manawaroa

This was part of a ‘Wild in Art’ promotion where 50 large penguins were painted and then auctioned to raise money for the Cholmondeley Children's Centre.The art work relates to urban resilience, positively adapting and transforming amongst a series of trying times, as we continue to navigate well-being and inclusive growth.

Kia Manawaroa is designed in a contemporary Te Waipounamu Maori style and references the character Tank Evans from the animated film ‘Surfs Up.’ Morgan Matthews Hale is a local artist who works out of her Kaitiaki studio and is one of Canterbury's leading Maori Wahine artists
